How it goes together
Vertical boards are tongued and grooved into each other, then framed with stiles and rails and stiffened by a diagonal brace that always rises from the hinge side. Get the brace the wrong way round and the door drops within a year, which is why we set it on the bench and not on site.
Ironmongery
Black wrought strap hinges, ring pulls, thumb latches and drop bolts, supplied and fitted at the mill. Hot-dip galvanised fixings where the door faces weather, because plain steel will bleed down a chengal board in one wet season.
Heritage and replacement work
We regularly copy an existing door from a set of photographs and a rubbing of the plank widths, matching board spacing and ledge positions so a replacement reads correctly on an older shophouse.
