Three questions that usually settle it
Is the opening covered? An exposed entrance rules out most internal constructions and pushes you toward chengal or balau with an oil finish that can be refreshed on site.
How wide is the leaf? Past about 1100mm a solid slab starts to move, and an engineered core - pivot or designer - becomes the sensible answer rather than an upgrade.
Is this one door or a house full? A set of ten benefits enormously from a routed or designer approach, where one setup repeats perfectly and the per-leaf cost drops.
